Color measurement quality control system

Compare the produced color with the target by measurement and manage the ΔE tolerance on record, in the laboratory and on the production line.

DEFINITION

What is a color quality control system?

A color quality control system measures the produced color against the target and shows on record whether it is within the ΔE tolerance. It runs with a spectrophotometer and software in the laboratory and with online systems on the production line.

The aim is to catch batch differences early, prevent faulty production and reduce re-dyeing and waste.

Argetek offers ColorMission software, Konica Minolta spectrophotometers and Agteks' online systems ShadeBar and QualityBar-Cam together.

01

Laboratory control

Quality control and tolerance management with ColorMission; recipe correction when the result is out of tolerance.

02

Color control on the line

ShadeBar: monitors edge and center color differences of the fabric as ΔE and L*a*b* values in real time and tracks length.

03

Defect control on the line

QualityBar-Cam: detects and classifies point, horizontal and vertical fabric defects with cameras; 6 m working width, 50 m/min line speed.

Quality control steps

01

Define the standard

The target color and ΔE tolerance are set according to the customer specification.

02

Measure

The sample or the product on the line is measured with a spectrophotometer or an online system.

03

Decide

The result is compared with the tolerance; conforming product is approved.

04

Correct

For out-of-tolerance results the recipe is corrected or the line is adjusted.

By industry

In textile and dyehouses, batch color consistency and fabric defects are monitored; in automotive, multi-angle measurement of metallic and pearl coatings and ΔE tolerances; in architectural paint, color consistency between batches and correct tinting.

Frequently asked questions

The target color and tolerance are defined, the sample or the product on the line is measured with a spectrophotometer, the difference is calculated as ΔE and compared with the tolerance. For out-of-tolerance results the recipe is corrected or production is adjusted.
The ΔE tolerance is set by the customer specification, the standard and the industry. ColorMission lets you define these tolerances and evaluate measurements against them.
Laboratory control is done on a sample; online control measures continuously while the product moves on the line. ShadeBar shows color differences of the fabric during production so deviations are noticed immediately.
QualityBar-Cam scans the fabric surface in real time with high-resolution cameras and detects and classifies point, horizontal and vertical defects with AI algorithms.
