Spectrophotometers and color measurement devices

Measure color numerically and repeatably instead of judging by eye. As the official Konica Minolta solution partner, we provide the device, installation and software from a single source.

DEFINITION

What is a spectrophotometer?

A spectrophotometer measures the light a surface reflects at each wavelength and expresses color as numerical values such as CIELAB (L*, a*, b*). Color is judged with repeatable data instead of by eye, and the difference between a sample and the target is calculated as ΔE.

Unlike a colorimeter, it measures the whole visible spectrum, so calculations can be made under different light sources and colors that look different under different light (metamerism) can be detected.

Argetek sells, installs, calibrates and supports Konica Minolta devices and combines the measurement data with ColorMission software.

01

Precise measurement

Industrial color measurement across 360-740 nm; d:8° sphere geometry for reflectance measurement aligned with CIE, ISO, ASTM, DIN and JIS standards.

02

Fast results

On the CM-36d, SCI + SCE measurement completes in about 3.5 seconds.

03

Software integration

Measurement data feeds ColorMission quality control and recipe calculation; compatible with spectrophotometers of all brands.

Konica Minolta models

01

CM-36d series

Benchtop model. 360-740 nm, d:8° sphere geometry, LAV Ø30/25.4 mm, MAV Ø11/8 mm and SAV Ø7/4 mm measurement apertures. G/GV models add transmittance and 60° gloss options.

02

CM-23d

Portable entry-level model offering the operability of the series' top models. Suited to quick checks in the field and on the production floor.

03

Multi-angle measurement

Automotive metallic and pearl effect coatings change color with viewing angle, so they are measured with a multi-angle spectrophotometer.

Which device should you choose?

The benchtop CM-36d series suits laboratory use and high repeatability; the portable CM-23d suits quick checks in the field. The devices are used in textile, paint, plastics, chemicals, paper, ceramics, automotive and architectural paint. Tell us your need and we will recommend the right model.

Frequently asked questions

A spectrophotometer measures the light a surface reflects at each wavelength and expresses color numerically (CIELAB L*, a*, b*). Color is judged with repeatable data rather than by eye, and the difference between a sample and the target is found as ΔE.
A colorimeter measures three values through color filters; a spectrophotometer measures the whole spectrum wavelength by wavelength. It can therefore calculate under different light sources and detect metamerism, which is why it is preferred for quality control and recipe calculation.
ΔE expresses the difference between a sample and the target color as a single number in the CIELAB color space. The smaller the value, the closer the colors; the acceptable ΔE tolerance is set by the industry and the customer specification.
The benchtop CM-36d series suits laboratory use and high repeatability; the portable CM-23d suits quick checks in the field. If your surface is metallic or pearl effect, multi-angle measurement is needed. Describe your need and the Argetek team will recommend the right model.
